Long hauls punish the body. Hours in the same seated position tighten your hips, compress your spine, and leave your legs stiff and aching. The fix doesn't require a gym — just five minutes at your next stop.
1. Standing Hip Flexor Stretch Step one foot forward into a slight lunge. Push your hips gently forward until you feel a stretch in the front of your back leg. Hold 30 seconds each side. This counteracts the hip tightness that causes lower back pain.
2. Seated Spinal Twist Still works standing too. Place one hand on the truck, rotate your torso slowly, and hold. Releases the mid-back tension that builds up over long stretches behind the wheel.
3. Calf Raises on the Step Use your cab step. Raise up onto your toes, lower slowly. Ten reps. Keeps blood moving in your lower legs and fights the swelling that comes from sitting too long.
4. Shoulder Rolls and Neck Release Roll your shoulders backward ten times, then gently tilt your head side to side. Undoes the forward hunch that driving builds into your upper body.
5. Standing Forward Fold Hinge at your hips and let your upper body hang toward the ground. Bend your knees slightly. Decompresses the spine and resets your posture before the next leg.
Do this circuit at every major stop. Your back, hips, and energy levels will thank you a thousand miles down the road.
